A Quick Start Guide to AER’s New Features
The new edition of Astronomy Education Review (AER) has been designed to make the journal’s content easier to read and integrate into your workflow. In addition, several new features and related services are now available, thanks to our association with the American Institute of Physics and their journal hosting platform Scitation.
Accelerated “Article-at-a-Time” Publication with Citation Identifiers
Beginning with Vol. 8 (2009), AER articles will now appear online with a six-digit “citation identifier” (CID) in lieu of page numbers. Articles are fully citable at the moment of publication, using this identifier.
Full Text Options
The full-text of each AER articles is available in both HTML format and PDF, including all equations, references (with links), tables, and figures. Note that the full-text print out buttons are under the heading “Full Text Options” at the right on the article page.
MySCITATION
As part of MyScitation, Scitation’s personalization toolbox, AER users can take advantage of functions such as MyArticles, a “virtual filing cabinet” that allows users to track, organize, and share articles of personal interest. Although AER requires no subscription to access the journal content, use of personalization features requires a username and password. Create a “MySci” account to get started (select “Free! MyScitation Research Toolkit Registration”).
AER articles are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). DOI names have been called “the bar code for intellectual property”. The DOI assures that AER articles can always be found on the Internet even if the web address changes.
RSS Feeds
As a complement to our email-based table-of-contents alert service http://aer.aip.org/aer/info/alert.jsp, RSS (Really Simple Syndication) can help a researcher stay informed about new AER content by alerting users of article availability within minutes of online publication. Feeds can be set up in your RSS reader or browser with just a few mouse-clicks. Article titles, authors, and abstracts are delivered directly to your Internet-connected computer or mobile device, or both, in near-real-time. AER’s feeds can cover the entire journal, but can also be segmented by section (i.e., Research and Applications, Innovation, Letters to the Editor, etc.). Subscribe to any of AER’s RSS feeds today.
Search Tools
AER now offers a suite of powerful search and discovery tools, including:
Full-text and bibliographic searching across all AER content; each article is indexed to exceptional granularity, including affiliations, keywords, sections headings, and Physics and Astronomy Classification Scheme (PACS) codes.
Links are provided to search within the current issue, as well as across all AER issues. Each issue’s Table of Contents contains a “quick search” link to search only that issue.
As part of the Scitation family of publications, AER users can search across all of Scitation’s holdings as well (approximately 2 million articles in science and engineering, with an accent on the physical sciences). Start searching AER , or click on the “Search Tools” link above.
User Support
AER users requiring any assistance with any aspect of the journal – including use of the new features described above – may contact the Online Help Desk at: Email: help@scitation.org Phone: 1-800-874-6383 (United States and Canada) or 1- 516-576-2664 (other locations)
